HPE Talks: Paul talks with Brandon Lenoir RNC & DNC Convention’s

HPE Talks Politics

We sat down recently with HPU Assistant Professor of Political Communication Brandon Lenoir, who gave a group of High Point University students a political chance of their young lifetimes. Lenoir took his HPU students to both presidential nominating conventions — the Republican gathering in Cleveland and the Democratic one in Philadelphia. The students spent most of the conventions serving as runners, or assistants, for media representatives covering both conventions.

TvilleTimes: Violence impacts Thomasville

Five days after the nation’s deadliest incident for police officers since Sept. 11, 2001, a candlelight vigil was held in downtown Thomasville for the slain officers in Dallas.

In a ceremony that also doubled as a show of support for Thomasville Police, residents gathered at the fountain near the Big Chair to pay their respects. Daniel Kennedy chats with Thomasville Police Chief Jeff Insley, Donna and Zieaira Baxter, as well Mayor Raleigh York Jr. after the event.

The Paddler Part 4

By the time George Kent Wallace was released from prison in 1976, High Point had largely forgotten about his three-month reign of terror as The Paddler a decade earlier.

It’s been nearly 50 years since the 64-year-old Thomasville man spent a couple of hours trapped in the car of The Paddler — the early-1966 stalker who abducted local boys and spanked them severely with a wooden paddle — and he’s never forgotten the strong, distinctive scent that permeated the vehicle that night.

HIGH POINT — A half-century ago, High Point could boast of being an almost idyllic community.

Crime was relatively low. Neighborhoods were safe. Homeowners didn’t worry about locking their doors at night, nor their vehicles. And children, even young children, could walk to school by themselves and play outside well past dusk without fear of stranger danger.
